2015 Round 3 – Preview

IT will be a tightly contested affair in round three for the PJT Accountants & Business Advisors Queensland Saloon Car series, at the CAMS State Championship meeting promoted by the Warwick District and Sporting Car Club, at Morgan Park this weekend, September 5 to 6.

In the lead up to the penultimate round for the series, 13 Queensland drivers joined the Australian Super Six Touring Car Series for round 5 of their series at the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals meeting last month at Queensland Raceway.

The Queensland Saloon Cars series drivers held their own in the Australian Super Six Touring Car Series, won by Gold Coast-based second-generation racer Ben Grice, recording a clean sweep (aka #GriceWash) with three storming victories at the Paperclip.

The Queenslanders impressed from the outset with four drivers featuring in the top six combined qualifying times leading into the first race. Queensland Saloon Cars driver and Australian Super Six regular Ashley Jarvis finished third for the round thanks to two thirds and a fourth, while Queensland Saloon Car Series leader Gary Beggs performed on the big stage with a podium after a storming race three, despite mechanical issues proving that the Coates Hire VT team and driver are indeed human. Lindsay Kearns was also on the pace throughout the weekend, finishing in the top five for the round.

With a number of drivers remaining in contention for the championship title, there will be plenty of action packed racing for fans to enjoy around the fast and flowing Southern Downs circuit.

Beggs, who holds a 42 point advantage over Kearns, says a consistent performance this weekend will go a long way towards sealing the title for a second consecutive year.

“Hopefully we can keep the pace up that we have been showing throughout this year and stay at the front of the field, the car has been really good,” said Beggs.

Kearns says the racing will be close between him and Beggs at Morgan Park.

“I have been playing second fiddle to Beggsy this year, although I have been getting closer and hopefully I can get past and stay in front of him this weekend,” said Kearns.

Will a return to Begg’s home track see him continue his strangle hold on round wins or can the looming Falcons of Kearns and the Jarvis Brothers break through to take the top step of the podium. These questions and more will be answered this weekend, so come along to see how the action will unfold.
