EXCITEMENT is building ahead of round one of the 2015 PJT Accountants & Business Advisors Queensland Saloon Car series, at the CAMS State Championship event at Morgan Park on March 21 to 22, promoted by the MG Car Club of Queensland.

Category director, John Townsend, is looking forward to the year ahead for the series.

“The First round this weekend will be quality rather than quantity as some sit out due to the close proximity of the Bathurst Motor Festival at Easter… [However,] It is encouraging that we continue to have new competitors joining us as will be seen at our first round this weekend with Wayne Cook running the ex Dave Rogers AU Falcon and the formerly owned Stanfield AU joining the Ashley Jarvis stable… Further newcomers and some longstanding members will be rejoining as the year progresses,” said Townsend.

2014 series runner-up Coleby Cowham is keen to improve on his performances in the new year.

“We had a disappointing finish to last year, with some DNF’s at the final round taking us out of contention.  Our speed as the year went on improved, although we never had enough to get close enough to Garry Beggs in his VT.  We’ve given the Escape Energy Falcon some TLC and a new look during the off-season, so I am looking forward to closing the gap and start the year off in a strong way at Morgan Park,” said Cowham.

Seasoned campaigner Jon Fishburn, who will be driving the #29 Toronto Head & Engine sponsored VT commodore is hopeful that the new year will reap new rewards.

“Stepping up to the later model cars in 2012 has seen us plagued with reliability and handling issues with the Commodore. We are looking for better things in 2015,” said Fishburn.

The Queensland Saloon Car Series continues Australia’s traditional Holden vs Ford rivalry with six-cylinder Falcons and Commodores and offers competitors high-speed thrills at a realistic cost while acting as a vital stepping stone in Australian Touring Car racing.
